Oral and maxillofacial surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a primarily surgical specialist field that takes account of the anatomical and functional complexity of the face and the jaw. As this requires highly specialised training, specialising in this field entails several years of further training at a specially designated hospital facility in addition to completing degrees in medicine and dentistry. This can subsequently be complemented with a specialisation in plastic reconstructive surgery for the maxillofacial area.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery encompasses the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of illness, injury, fracture, malformation and alteration of the teeth, the oral cavity, the jaw and the face. A particular focus is the patient's functional (chewing, swallowing, speaking) and aesthetic rehabilitation.

Our surgery's guiding principle

What guides our work is an evidence-based medicine with "informed consent" as its foundation. Patient-focused treatment can only happen on the basis of empirically proven and documented effectiveness. We apply our clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to identify the best suited treatment method for every individual in a conversation with the patient after weighing up the potential benefits and risks of all the different diagnosis and treatment options.
