Facial skin tumors
Micrograpic controlled removal of malignant skin tumors
Tasks
Diagnosis and surgical therapy of benign an malignant tumors of the head and facial skin including the plastic reconstruction
Typical procedures
- Malignant skin tumors of head and face are usually removed in cooperation with a (dermatohisto)pathologist for an exact control of the cutting edges.
- Wound closure and plastic reconstruction of the skin defect is only performed with histological proven tumor-free cutting edges.
- Depending of the tumor type a simple excision up to further measures like lymph node dissection, radiation or chemotherapy might be necessary. Those patients have to be referred to a center for a multidisciplinary approach together with surgeons, dermatologists, radiotherapists and oncologists.
